Bringing new skills to residents

What a great idea and project to be involved in! The original idea was to help a group of residents learn skills to build confidence and help them secure employment. With the support of the local college, JCP, Charlton Triangle Housing and Flower Skills, this became a new and highly successful project.

The project

A group of 20 Charlton Triangle Homes residents joined a course to acquire practical skills which would help them look after their own homes and earn them a level 1 qualification, 12 of the group chose to progress on to a higher-level course and a Level 2 qualification (with a success rate of 100%). From this group, 5 went directly into employment, maintaining the estate where they live, supported by Flower Skills staff. All 5 went on to further employment.

Not only did these residents gain career skills, qualifications and work history, but the wider community responded really positively to local residents helping to look after the estate—and the residents working on the project have felt appreciated and motivated.

Feedback from the site supervisors and residents has been highly complimentary.

Andrew Kimmance, Chief Executive of Charlton Triangle said, “Once again may I state that this has been a great success for the individuals concerned. The quality of their work has been outstanding and has made a real impact locally. I look forward to a continuing partnership with Flower Skills.”
