Construction courses

We offer courses for a range of trades. Courses include introductions to a trade, refreshers and building up your speed in a trade, adding new skills, cross-training in new trades and product familiarisation.

In2Construction (incl. CSCS)

Qualification: City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Construction Skills + CSCS
Length of course: 3 weeks

Our "In 2 Construction" course is a 3 week programme that covers basic construction skills in up to 2 different trades, combined with health & safety training to make sure that you are safe on site. Successful candidates will leave with a City & Guilds level 1 Award in Construction Skills, together with a City & Guilds health & safety qualification and the CSCS test and card. Ideal if you are looking to get work in the industry.

The course is free to adults aged 19 or over on 31 August 2020 and who are in receipt of an eligible benefit (such as Universal Credit). Plese contact us for more details and for costs if you are not entitled to study for free.

An introduction to basic construction trade skills delivered in workshops, combined with health and safety training to keep you safe.

Upgrade Course

Qualification: City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills
Length of course: 10 days

For learners who have successfully completed a City & Guilds level 1 Award in Construction Skills, this course adds a further trade (usually plastering) to your repertoire and converts that Award into a Level 1 Certificate.

Learn the basics of plastering, including health and safety, making up mixes, applying render and plaster.

Manual handling

Qualification: City & Guilds level 1 Award
Length of course: 1 day

How to assess, plan, prepare and conduct manual handling.

Painting & Decorating Taster

Qualification: In-house Certificate
Length of course: 5 days over 1-5 weeks

An introduction to the basics of painting and decorating, covering wall-papering and painting. Elements include preparation of surfaces; applying paint with a brush and roller; and hanging wall-paper, including internal and external corners.

Employability

Qualification: City & Guilds level 1 Award
Length of course: 5-10 days

The course can be modified to suit the needs of the particular group of learners and can cover a range of skills and techniques to improve the chances of securing employment and of staying employed once they have found a job.
