“The training is good, I’m finding it of help to my job all the time, it makes it easier”

Maintenance Operations apprentice
Apprenticeships combine college learning with on-site experience to ensure the right balance of technical skills and practical experience.
Employers and trainees both benefit from the mix of training and real construction site experience.
You don’t need any previous construction qualifications to enrol. Your suitability for the programme will be assessed during the interview and assessment stages (Literacy and Numeracy Skills). You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the programme and the construction industry.
The programme is based on attending our centre 1 day per week and working 4 days - or on a block release system which we would discuss with the employer. While at work the apprentice should be working at the trade they are training in – this is so that they can demonstrate competence in work situations as well as gaining experience. The apprentice should be committed and have reasonable maths and English skills.
Construction Apprenticeships provide the training, qualifications and expertise to become a fully qualified construction worker and obtain a CSCS Card whilst still in employment.
If you are good with your hands and want a practical career then these could be the courses for you!
The apprenticeship framework involves completion of the following:
• Technical Certificate in the chosen trade (Construction Diploma Level 2 Certificate)
• National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in the chosen trade
• CSCS health & safety test and card
• Employer Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
• Key Skills or Functional Skills in English or Maths
• Abrasive Wheels (Brickwork only)
The duration of the apprenticeship depends on the ability of the candidate and their ability to demonstrate work-based evidence to meet the NVQ criteria (if they cover all the elements of the qualification at work, they will complete much more quickly than if they work only occasionally in those areas). Generally, we would expect apprentices to complete within between 6 months and 2 years.
Eligibility:

These are part-time courses for young people who prefer to ‘earn while they learn’.
